In recent years, treatment of malfunctions of the ankle joint due to injuries or wear and tear has decisively improved through the development of special small joint arthroscopes. The ARTICO Sports Clinic offers help, inter alia, through ligament-capsule reconstructions. Indication for a surgery is mostly made due to pain, swelling, movement restriction, instability, jams or blood in the joint. With it, consequential damages after dislocations with stress pain, instability and blockages through free joint bodies are the most often causes. We also treat, in an arthroscopic way, irritations of the joint mucosa (synovitis), adhesions and cicatrisation with movement restriction (arthrofibrosis) and movement restrictions as a result of trapped soft part tissue. In case the joint cartilage is damaged a cartilage treatment can be carried out similar to the one at the knee joint. In most cases, the damaged cartilage is carefully removed, smoothed and the underlying bone brushed up in order to promote regeneration of filamentary cartilage. Just as with the shoulder, protruding bone edges (osteophytes) are taken away in a minimum-invasive procedure.
